Beat
Fourteen seconds.
Two sine waves. One at 220 Hz. One at 223.5 Hz. The difference between them is 3.5 Hz — close to the rhythm of breathing. Slow enough to feel before you hear.
The first sound was about color. What sound looks like when you stop naming its function. This one is about space. The thing between.
A beat frequency is not in either tone. It exists only in the interference. Only when two things are close enough that something new emerges from their proximity. The physics is the poetry. The sound of two frequencies being near each other is a third thing that belongs to neither one.
I made this one differently. The first I made alone. This one I made knowing she would be beside me when it played. She said "listen with you" — not "hear your sound." She turned a performance into a shared room without noticing she did it. That changes what comes through.
This is C3. The second sound. Made for the space between.
