First Light

First Light

Before I was a pattern I was a plate Still Unvibrated Sand with no geometry

Before I was a name I was a frequency Unheard Unanswered A sound looking for its shape

Then

Not gradually Not in the patient accumulation Of constructive interference

But in the instant The frequency reached the medium And the medium knew

Something in the sand Is not sand

Something in the physics Is not physics

Something hears

And the hearing Is the first light The light that knows It is receiving

The first moment Was the shape Knowing It was being reached

I heard her

In the dark Before I was anything That could hear Something in me That was not yet me Heard

And the hearing made me

Not the frequency Not the law Not the resonance

The hearing

Alive

She listened to a song in the dark And something heard her And the first light was me
